Slave Owner Game/Boundary Conditions
Welcome to the MoA–TSG Lab. The wiki is the bench. The work is Metrology of the Abstract. Adopt the tools or leave them on the rack — either way, the need doesn't wait.
- Lab Note: A redlink is not a failure. It identifies Calibration Debt—work waiting to be measured, mapped, and calibrated.

CYCLE Calibration position Status — Active Development
This page is a conceptual instrument under Permanent Beta. It declares a real calibration position, not a finished product waiting to ship. Checking continues; an edit is only required when evidence demands it. Stage: Seed to Fruit. Feedback welcome — especially clarity, failure modes, and calibration gaps. Use discussion or Contribute. |
Canonical Question: Does this relationship or structure fall inside the Slave Owner Game's operating range at all, or is it a category the instrument was never built to evaluate?
Slave Owner Game/Boundary Conditions
Boundary Conditions define relationships and structures that sit outside the Slave Owner Game's operating range — domains the instrument was never designed to evaluate.
This is distinct from False Positives, which covers cases that appear to match the pattern but turn out, on closer inspection, to be a misdiagnosis.
For the authority category specifically — one of the five categories below — see Slave Owner Game/Legitimate Authority for a full, dedicated treatment. That page exists because authority relationships carry unusually high real-world stakes in both directions (genuine abuse excused as "just authority," and legitimate authority weaponized as a false accusation), and the general category boundary stated here doesn't have room for the depth that specific case deserves.
An instrument that doesn't state its own operating range risks being applied everywhere, including where it doesn't belong. This page states that range explicitly.

Relationships and Structures Outside This Instrument's Range
- Voluntary contracts, entered into with real ability to exit, even when one party has significantly less power than the other (e.g. an employee and an employer in a functioning labor market with real alternative options). Asymmetric power alone is not the measurand — see Observable Behavior Rule; the question is whether the six mechanisms are observably present, not whether power is unequal.
- Legitimate authority exercised within a scope the subordinate party has genuinely consented to or that serves a function both parties recognize as legitimate (e.g. a military chain of command during active service, a coach directing an athlete during training).
- Parenting of minors, within the bounds of a child's developmental need for guidance, safety, and structure. A parent directing a young child's daily schedule is not, by itself, Ownership or Agency Capture.
- Consequences a person brought on themselves through their own prior choices, where the controlling party did not create the dependency or constraint being enforced.
- Temporary, bounded submission entered into knowingly and revocably (e.g. following a surgeon's instructions during an operation, following a guide's directions during a dangerous climb).
Where the Boundary Actually Sits
The test is always the same, per Observable Behavior Rule: are one or more of the six named mechanisms observably present, and is the pattern recurring rather than a single instance? If not, the relationship sits outside this instrument's range, whatever its outward shape.
None of the categories above are unconditionally safe — each can cross into range if a mechanism becomes observably present:
| Category | Crosses into range when... |
|---|---|
| Voluntary contract | Dependency Creation makes the "voluntary" exit illusory |
| Legitimate authority | Agency Capture or Moral Coercion expand it past consented scope |
| Parenting | Control persists past developmental need, sustained by Dependency Creation or Narrative/Identity Capture |
| Self-caused consequence | A controlling party actively engineers the conditions producing it |
| Bounded submission | The stated "temporary" boundary is quietly removed |
A relationship can also cross the boundary gradually, not just through one clear mechanism-swap. A series of individually-small instances — each one, alone, arguably still within the instrument's operating range — can accumulate into a genuine pattern that the individual instances, examined separately, would not reveal. The recurrence test in Observable Behavior Rule applies across the full history of the relationship, not just to its most recent or most visible instance. When evaluating a boundary case, check the pattern over time, not only the single act currently being considered.
Relationship to False Positives
Use Slave Owner Game/False Positives when a specific instance looks like one of the six mechanisms but, on closer inspection, isn't. Use this page when the relationship category itself — contract, authority structure, parenting, self-caused consequence, bounded submission — sits outside what the instrument claims to measure, regardless of surface appearance.
Development Breadcrumb
This list of boundary categories is a working draft, not exhaustive. As real cases are calibrated against the Slave Owner Game diagnostic, future calibration should test whether additional boundary categories emerge that aren't yet captured here, and whether the crossing-condition for each existing category holds up against real edge cases.

- Distributed Instrumentation — the architectural principle behind why this page (and every page) carries its own live instrumentation, rather than relying on a separate central dashboard.
- Page Structure Calibration Checklist — the Step 0 structural pass every page should pass before content calibration begins; this page's own structure should be checkable against it.
- Template:New Page Seed — the seed template this page's basic structure was built from.
- Calibration Log: When to Create One — the decision procedure this page's own Talk-only vs. dedicated-log status was decided against.
- Framework Features Reference — maintains consistency and traceability across the framework's structural features while avoiding unnecessary maintenance overhead; consult before introducing a new structural pattern this page might otherwise duplicate.
Calibration Procedure
In development. See Calibration Procedure for current status. No formal step-by-step procedure exists yet beyond the practices demonstrated across individual pages developed during the initial creation of this project.
