Slave Owner Game
Canonical Question: What pattern of agency-subordination is occurring in a given scenario, and is it correctly distinguished from legitimate authority, voluntary consent, or ordinary consequence?
Primary Measurand: Degree of attempted agency subordination through one or more of the six named mechanisms.
This game is not about victims. It is about the perpetrators — those who seek to own, control, and extract from another person's agency, time, emotions, or labor through manipulation, guilt, obligation, and moral coercion. We name it without apology. Softening the name would be playing the very game we seek to expose. — Sovereign Games Principle

Overview
The Slave Owner Game is a diagnostic instrument for identifying patterns in which one party seeks to subordinate another person's agency through claims of ownership, coercion, dependency, or moral authority.
This diagnostic does not evaluate intent, belief, or motive. It evaluates actions and their consequences. A controller's stated — or even sincerely held — belief that they act for God, the Revolution, the Collective, Science, the State, or "the children" is not part of what this instrument measures. It measures only the observable pattern of agency subordination and its consequences. This is deliberate: judging intent invites exactly the kind of speculation, tribalism, and motivated reasoning this framework exists to resist. See Observable Behavior Rule and Diagnostic Inversion Test.
This is the central hub page for the Slave Owner Game. This page answers "what is this pattern and how do I recognize it." The subpages answer "how does it operate in detail, and how do I respond."
The Six Mechanisms
"Control" is too broad a category for precise diagnosis. The Slave Owner Game operates through six distinguishable mechanisms, which may appear individually or in combination:
- Ownership — Treating another person's will, body, labor, or decisions as literally or functionally belonging to the controller.
- Agency Capture — Extracting obedience, submission, or deference without an explicit ownership claim. The person may still formally "choose," but the choice is structurally foreclosed.
- Extraction — Taking labor, time, resources, or emotional output under an ownership or agency-capture claim.
- Dependency Creation — Deliberately engineering reliance that makes leaving materially or psychologically costly.
- Moral Coercion — Using guilt, obligation, shame, or manufactured duty as the primary enforcement mechanism.
- Narrative/Identity Capture — Redefining a person's self-understanding, language, or worldview so that submission is experienced as identity rather than imposition.
Diagnostic Repeatability Test: Can two independent practitioners, using only this page and its subpages, reach substantially similar conclusions when evaluating the same real scenario? If not, the mechanism definitions require further precision.
Together, these six mechanisms are what "corrupted Game Theory" actually looks like in practice — the specific ways one party subordinates another's agency instead of engaging in mutual cooperation and voluntary exchange.
Development Breadcrumb: This taxonomy is working, not validated — mechanisms may merge, split, or rename as evidence accumulates. See Theory for observable indicators per mechanism (not yet built).
Note on the six mechanisms: This is a working taxonomy. Future calibration should test whether these mechanisms are independent, collectively exhaustive, and consistently identifiable across practitioners. Each mechanism will eventually need its own set of observable indicators.
Quick Summary
The Slave Owner Game is corrupted Game Theory: instead of mutual cooperation and voluntary exchange, one party seeks to subordinate another's agency through one or more of the six mechanisms above. The same mechanisms appear at multiple scales — from interpersonal relationships to institutions and civilizations.
Historical Recurrence
The specific mechanisms have varied across history while the underlying diagnostic pattern has remained stable:
| Era | Dominant Mechanisms |
|---|---|
| Ancient World (Egypt, Rome, Mesopotamia) | Ownership |
| Feudalism & Serfdom | Ownership + Dependency Creation |
| Transatlantic Slave Trade & Colonialism | Ownership + Narrative/Identity Capture |
| 20th Century Totalitarianism | Agency Capture + Narrative/Identity Capture |
| Modern Era (families, workplaces, relationships) | Moral Coercion + Dependency Creation (often more psychologically subtle) |
See Examples for detailed case studies. This section focuses on recurring patterns rather than historical narrative.
This diagnosis is a precision instrument. Use it for liberation, never for domination. The moment you weaponize it to own others, you have entered the game you claim to oppose.
Typical Failure Modes
- Often confused with: Ordinary disagreement, enforcement of legitimate authority, or natural consequences for one's own choices. See False Positives and Boundary Conditions.
- Should NOT be used for: Redefining historical chattel slavery, winning arguments through escalation, or establishing legal doctrine.
- Common misuse: Weaponizing the diagnosis itself to control or dominate others.
Key Highlights
- Primary Measurand: Degree of attempted agency subordination via the six named mechanisms.
- Real-World Effects: Erodes individual agency, creates dependent populations, weakens high-trust societies, and produces long-term civilizational damage when scaled.
Legal & Professional Use Notice Sovereign Games terminology can add analytical depth in legal settings, but it is a diagnostic framework, not established legal doctrine.
See the Game. Refuse the Game. Build Better.

Calibration Dependencies

Page Construction & Maintenance References
How we construct, maintain, and utilize each page as a self-admin control panel.
- Distributed Instrumentation — the architectural principle behind why this page (and every page) carries its own live instrumentation, rather than relying on a separate central dashboard.
- Page Structure Calibration Checklist — the Step 0 structural pass every page should pass before content calibration begins; this page's own structure should be checkable against it.
- Template:New Page Seed — the seed template this page's basic structure was built from.
- Calibration Log: When to Create One — the decision procedure this page's own Talk-only vs. dedicated-log status was decided against.
- Framework Features Reference — maintains consistency and traceability across the framework's structural features while avoiding unnecessary maintenance overhead; consult before introducing a new structural pattern this page might otherwise duplicate.
Calibration Procedure
In development. See Calibration Procedure for current status. No formal step-by-step procedure exists yet beyond the practices demonstrated across individual pages developed during the initial creation of this project.
Tracking & Log Pages
- Admin:Maintenance Dashboard - This dashboard shows pages that require calibration or review.
- Nonconformance Reporting Procedure — What counts as a nonconformance and where it routes.

This page is under continuous calibration in line with the Permanent Beta principle.
Public Discussion Welcome
Questions, suggestions, feedback, disagreement, and proposed improvements are welcome on the Talk page.
Light rules:
- Prefer evidence and concrete examples over slogans.
- Apply Diagnostic Inversion Test when criticizing — the same standard to this page that you would apply elsewhere.
- Distinguish observation from conclusion.
- Use the Calibration Log and Decision Records subpages for maintenance history; use Talk for public discussion.
- This framework remains in Permanent Beta. Better calibration is always in scope.
