Talk:Distributed Instrumentation
Page Transparency & Calibration
- Calibration Log & Decision Records (via Talk Page) — This page uses Talk-only calibration tracking. Full history of reviews, version changes, calibration decisions, and any governance reasoning behind structural decisions all live on the same Talk page, per Calibration Log: When to Create One and Decision Records: Governance Memory. Not every Calibration Log entry is a Decision Record — scan the Talk page's headings for entries specifically marked as decisions; the link itself being active only confirms this page has calibration history, not that a formal decision was ever recorded.
- View Current Page History — Complete edit history.
This page is under continuous calibration in line with the Permanent Beta principle.
Public Discussion Welcome
Questions, suggestions, feedback, disagreement, and proposed improvements are welcome on the Talk page.
Light rules:
- Prefer evidence and concrete examples over slogans.
- Apply Diagnostic Inversion Test when criticizing — the same standard to this page that you would apply elsewhere.
- Distinguish observation from conclusion.
- Calibration entries and Decision Records are maintenance records; public discussion belongs in ordinary Talk threads.
- This framework remains in Permanent Beta. Better calibration is always in scope.
Calibration Report - 2026-07-14 (Initial Draft)
Page: Distributed Instrumentation Summary: States the architectural principle that each page carries its own live instrumentation (dependency queries, identity blocks, governance-history lookups) rather than the project relying on a separate, centralized control panel or dashboard. Reviewer: Sovereign Review Type: Self-Assessment (pre-round-robin)
Why This Page Was Built
This principle was never designed up front — it was noticed only after being repeatedly and independently applied across several hours of building tonight: `Calibration Dependent` and `Calibration Dependencies Display` render dependency status directly on each page rather than in a separate tool; the Resource block was switched from hidden to visible specifically so pages remain self-identifying even when exported outside the wiki entirely; Development Breadcrumbs record open questions in place rather than in a separate tracking list. The pattern was consistent before it had a name. This page exists to name it explicitly, so future feature decisions can be checked against it as a stated principle rather than rediscovered or contradicted by accident.
Core Claims Made
- Instrumentation should default to living on the page it describes, not in a separate central dashboard.
- This is partly a usability argument (a central dashboard requires remembering to check it; in-page instrumentation is unavoidable) and partly a governance argument, explicitly tied to One-Way Nature of the Sovereign Games's existing anti-capture principles (a central dashboard is a single point of failure/capture; distributed instrumentation removes that single point).
- This does not forbid aggregate views — a summary page built by querying many pages' own distributed data is compatible with this principle, as long as the aggregate is derived from the distributed data rather than becoming the thing pages depend on to know their own status.
instrument_grade: Experimental
calibration_rationale: Retroactive documentation of a pattern already consistently applied in practice across multiple real mechanisms built tonight, not a speculative new proposal — this gives it more grounding than a typical first draft, but it has not yet been tested against a case where the principle might create friction (e.g. a genuine need for a bird's-eye view across many pages at once, which the "aggregate views" carve-out addresses in theory but hasn't been tried in practice). review_confidence: Moderate
Validation: Low
The principle accurately describes what's already been built, which is a form of evidence — but it hasn't yet been stress-tested as a forward-looking design constraint on something genuinely new, only recognized after the fact.
Fields Changed
New page created. priority = Core, matching the weight-class of other foundational governance pages (Reality Override Game, Reference Standards).
Open Items
- Not yet round-robin reviewed.
- The "aggregate views derived from distributed data, not replacing it" carve-out is stated but has no built example yet — worth testing once a real aggregate-view need arises (e.g. the shelved Instrument Card idea, if revisited later, would be a natural test case).
- Governance-history lookup (referenced in "What This Looks Like in Practice") is still marked "in development" — this page documents the intended pattern before the mechanism itself is fully built, consistent with the project's practice of stating direction before completion (see Breadcrumb Philosophy).

Calibration Report — Distributed Instrumentation — 2026-07-20 (Structural Pre-Cal)
- Page: Distributed Instrumentation
- Summary: Structural pre-calibration pass. All identified nonconformances resolved.
- Reviewer: Sovereign
- Review Type: Self-Assessment (Structural only)
Summary of Changes:
- Moved `{ {GameModule}}` to correct position (after H1 and Canonical Question).
- Replaced forbidden live magic-word dates with static date `2026-07-20`.
- Changed param from `| Functional Layer =` to canonical `| Calibration Type =`.
- Added missing mandatory templates in required order: Framework Reference, Calibration Procedure Reference, Tracking Logs Reference.
- Added required inline HTML comments stating valid options on all GameModule and Admin Page Status fields.
Process Note: Nonconformances were logged first via Nonconformance Report before any fixes were applied, per current procedure.
What This Report Does NOT Claim: This is a structural pre-cal only. No content calibration (accuracy, symmetry, validation judgments, or instrument_grade elevation) was performed.
Open Items:
- Content calibration of Distributed Instrumentation still pending.
- Full independent review of the principle itself has not yet occurred.

- Amendment, 2026-07-14: Resolved. The false red-link test in the Page Transparency/Calibration section was corrected — the two separate bullets (Calibration Log, Decision Records) were collapsed into one, since both pointed to the identical Talk page URL and could never be meaningfully distinguished by link color once any calibration entry existed. Replaced with an honest instruction to check the Talk page's actual headings for decision-specific entries, rather than relying on link redness as a false signal. Verified independently: tested with a second reviewer (Grok), who correctly declined to draft changes until this nonconformance was formally logged first, per Nonconformance Reporting Procedure — confirms the "log before fixing" rule holds even when enforced by a party other than whoever wrote it. Pre-cal re-run post-fix, passed. Page updated with its own edit summary and Calibration Report. Sovereign (talk) 07:05, 20 July 2026 (EDT)
