CYCLE Calibration position — Seed Development Note · Process crosswalk · Non-normative until promoted — Seed Development (No Cal Cycle) This page is a conceptual instrument under Permanent Beta. It declares a real calibration position, not a finished product waiting to ship. Checking continues; an edit is only required when evidence demands it. Stage: Seed to Fruit. NIST → MoA Procedure Crosswalk
Purpose: Map established laboratory calibration logic (NIST quality practice, ISO/IEC 17025 themes, OWM SOP structure) onto Metrology of the Abstract so abstract-instrument work stays disciplined without overclaiming equivalence to NVLAP, SI realization, or legal authority.
Non-claims:
- This is not NVLAP accreditation criteria.
- This is not a claim that MoA results are NIST-traceable in the SI sense.
- Calibrator does not own the statute, dictionary, court, or policy text under test.
Operating claim: Works well enough to use · no overclaim · complete traceability · improve the standard · rinse and repeat.

| Description | One-page crosswalk from NIST/ISO laboratory calibration logic to Metrology of the Abstract (MoA) / ADM practice. Preserves analogy for procedure design without claiming physical-lab accreditation or domain ownership. |

Crosswalk Table
| NIST / lab metrology element | MoA / ADM analogue | Operator rule |
|---|---|---|
| Item under test + stated scope | Instrument identity + purpose-as-job + scope fence | Name the object in one line; fence out-of-scope neighbors before grading |
| Documented, validated method (ISO/IEC 17025 competence pattern) | Versioned ADM / Seed-compiler stages | No Stage 1+ without Stage 0 lock; method changes = version bump; 17025 is the competence pattern, not a claim of formal accreditation |
| Reference standard / artifact | Dated locked text (and assembly join rule if multi-source) | If it is not dated and citable, it is not evidence |
| Unbroken calibration chain (traceability) | Evidence lock → stages → report/IR → relationship/anchor links | Second party must be able to re-pressure the same object |
| Measurement uncertainty / budget | Mechanism grades · gaps · operational uncertainty · “not observed” | State limits; do not fill silence with ideology |
| Environmental / influence conditions | Register tags · friction cases · domain conditions that affect fit | Record conditions that change the reading of the map |
| Calibration certificate (SOP 1 / 17025 reporting) | Calibration Report (certificate) | Certificate ≠ IR; report what was measured, how, limits, standing |
| Intermediate representation / usable result | Calibrated IR + operator rules (+ alignment map when deep) | Reuse the package; do not re-decode prose from zero every time |
| Special Test / method under development | Seed · Self-Assessed · Developing maturity | Label immaturity; do not sell as Confirmed |
| Measurement assurance / control checks | Recalibration triggers · multi-operator friction · control cases over time | Process health is part of the product, not a one-off essay |
| Calibration intervals (evidence-based) | Review thresholds · drift/re-lock when authority changes | “As needed” without criteria is not a program |
| Impartiality (ISO/IEC 17025 §4 spirit) | No-faction certificate · conflicts of interest recorded | Certificate has no faction; financial, tribal, or advocacy conflicts are logged when present |
| Competence of the laboratory | Visible standing · Diagnostic Inversion · procedure adherence | Standing is earned and displayed; AI assessors are instruments, not votes for Confirmed |
| Scope of accreditation / claimed competence | Self-Assessed (or higher) for listed instrument class only | No blanket “MoA Confirmed everything”; standing is scoped to the instrument class named on the certificate |
| Nonconforming work | Break-of-procedure log · correct · re-run or amend certificate | When a run violates the method, record the nonconformity, fix, and do not silently ship the broken path |
| Lab does not own the SI | Calibrator does not own the definition / statute | Gated recommendations only; no seizure of the text |
| Method validation | Live runs · failure modes · promote Seed → procedure only after pressure | Existence proof ≠ universal validation |
| Equipment / software as measuring instruments | AI models under protocol · version/prompt log · human signs lock & certificate | Calibrated AI + human is valid production; model agreement alone does not grant Confirmed |
| Proficiency / peer pressure (lab world) | Independent human review path · public inspectability · multi-lab future | Confirmed requires standing beyond author self-assessment; not AI ensemble voting |
Certificate minimum (MoA)
Align with the spirit of lab certificates without cosplay:
- Unique run ID / page + date
- Instrument identity and locked sources (dated)
- Method / procedure version
- Results: grades, fit/distortion, gaps, not-observed outcomes
- Traceability path (what was locked → what was done)
- Standing (e.g. Self-Assessed)
- Explicit non-ownership / non-jurisdiction line
- Recommendations gated and optional
Rinse cycle
- Lock evidence (Stage 0)
- Run method (ADM / compiler)
- Issue certificate + IR
- Record gaps and friction
- Improve procedure or map
- Re-lock when sources or method change
- Repeat
Promote path
When stable under use, lift rows or certificate minimum into main MoA/ADM procedure pages. Until then this page remains a Seed / Development Note.
