Diagnostic Inversion Test

The Diagnostic Inversion Test is one of the most important self-correction tools in The Sovereign Games. It is a deliberate practice of applying the exact same diagnostic standards, scrutiny, and accountability to your own beliefs, group, or favored institutions that you apply to opposing ones.

It directly counters the near-universal human tendency toward motivated reasoning and selective application.

Core Principle

> “Run the same diagnostic on your own side that you would run on the other side — with equal rigor, honesty, and willingness to update.”

If a pattern (Slave Owner dynamics, Moloch incentives, Narrative Control, Weaponized Empathy, etc.) is destructive when done by the out-group, it does not magically become virtuous when done by your in-group.

How to Apply the Test

For any situation, claim, policy, or institution, ask:

1. Would I recognize this pattern if my opponents were doing it?

(Apply the full diagnostic lens honestly.)

2. Am I holding my own side to the same standards of evidence, accountability, and long-term consequences?

3. What would the Reality Game, Results & Consequences Game, or Skin in the Game reveal if applied without favoritism?

4. Am I explaining away or minimizing behaviors in my own camp that I would condemn in others?

5. If the roles were reversed, would my judgment remain consistent?

Why This Test Matters

- It is the primary defense against the framework itself becoming captured or turned into another ideology. - It prevents the common failure mode where people become excellent at seeing games in enemies while remaining blind to them in themselves or their allies. - It strengthens Hidden Mastery by forcing internal calibration. - It makes the entire Sovereign Games system more antifragile and trustworthy over time.

Common Failure Modes

  • Selective outrage (condemning the same behavior only when the out-group does it)
  • Special pleading (“Yes, but in our case it’s different because…”)
  • Motivated uncertainty (“We need more evidence” for the other side, but immediate acceptance for your side)
  • Narrative protection instead of truth-seeking

Sovereign Practice

Make Diagnostic Inversion a reflexive habit:

  • Before publishing criticism of another side, run the test on your own.
  • When defending your own side, explicitly apply the same games you would use against opponents.
  • Treat any resistance to applying the test as a red flag worth investigating.

See the Game. Refuse the Game. Build Better. — especially when the game is on your own side.

This test remains in Permanent Beta and should be applied to the Sovereign Games framework itself on a regular basis.
